IR illustrates the low-resolution, gas-phase spectra of six small molecules. Students can move a cursor along the each spectrum. When the cursor is over a peak in the spectrum, a picture of the molecular vibration corresponding to that peak is displayed.
IR is used to introduce infrared spectroscopy in the introductory and physical chemistry courses at Allegheny College.
This application was developed under NeXTstep release 2.0.
In the IR.app folder are six files with .spec extensions that provide the spectral data (wavenumbers and transmittances). Any or all of these can be easily modified to improv spectral resolution.
